Happy Saturnalia!!

Saturnalia's finally here! Yay! Of course I'm being sarcastic. Here's why.

It's freezing in central Texas, but the sun is melting the snow and ice. Never thought I'd write that on this particular day of the year. I'll bet thousands of Texans are saying or thinking, "It's a miracle." Nope. Not a miracle. Global Warming!! LOL!!!

Here's what the backyard looked like yesterday afternoon.

It still looked like that this morning, but like I said, the sun is melting the snow. It's still quite cold, though. Outside thermometer reads 46 degrees F. Okay, so that's not technically freezing, but it's damned cold - especially if you're a native Texan. I'm not. I've been in much colder places with lots more snow. These folks down here are wussies when it comes to snowy weather. Lots of traffic accidents. LOTS of them.

It's fun watching Dexter (the new cat, about 6 months old) reacting to the snow. I'm sure he's thinking, "What is this sh*t?!!" Good thing he doesn't like it much because he's solid white and, if he went out I wouldn't be able to see him!

I got up unusually early today. I think it was about 9:00 a.m. That's a good thing. I've been sleeping so much lately. Finally it seems that I've figured out how to be less sleepy. I'm trying to get up before noon, stay up all day (drinking coffee), go to bed at a reasonable hour, and repeat. It seems to be working for the most part. Still, if I have to get up before my body is ready, like to the sound of an alarm clock, it's nearly impossible to do.

My pain in the butt is really bothering me today. I call it my "330th Pain in the Butt" because, the first time I felt it, I was stationed at the 330th ASA Co (AVN). It's actually a pain caused by something called "lumbarization of the sacrum." (My Mac is telling me I spelled that wrong, but I think that's because it's a medical term, so I'm not going to change it.) Usually the pain only lasts a short time, but today it's sticking around. So, ouch. (How many of you thought at first that I was talking about a husband or boyfriend?!!)

I have the heater going so the house is comfortably warm, but sitting at the computer my legs were cold. I got a space heater and put it under the desk. Too warm. Then I thought, hey, I could put on some sweatpants. So I did. That's my life in Texas. It's so seldom cold that I forgot for a moment how to deal with it!! (I had been wearing some lightweight pajama pants, so you can erase that other image you had right out of your nasty head.)

Howie Mandel had never been someone I particularly liked. He has written a book and is doing the book tour thing. As part of that he has become quite active - and quite entertaining - on Twitter. If you're not following him, you might want to check him out. Here's a link to him on Twitter. Watching him sell his book and following his tweets has caused me to change my opinion of him. By the way, he's very, very good at responding to tweets. I haven't read his book. I have it on my Kindle and will read it as soon as I'm done with Stephen King's Duma Key.

This video is cute and a bit funny. Have a look.

Okay, well, I think that'll be all for now. I think I'm going to go make some chili. Or an egg sandwich. I can't decide.
