"The story of Harvey Milk, and his struggles as an American gay activist who fought for gay rights and became California's first openly gay elected official."
One could argue that this is a pro-gay film. I don't know if it is or not. I know it's a well-written and well-acted insight into a bit of history that I'd heard about but never really knew details about. It's the case that made the "Twinkie Defense" famous.
It's very relevant today, considering what's going on in California concerning gay rights.
And Sean Penn deserved that Oscar!

I support gay rights and think the whole mess in California is absurd. If a couple is happy let 'em get married -- that's a civil action. If the church doesn't want to perform the accompanying religious ceremony it's their choice.
I remember the whole Milk thing when it happened. Wasn't interested then, though it's sad he died. Not interested in the movie now.
