Of Mice and Balls

I've just about had it with my "Mighty Mouse," the new mouse designed by Apple. Conceptually it's a fantastic idea. Realistically it's a stress producer.

The Mighty Mouse has a tiny, tiny track ball on the top. It's wonderful - when it's working. I can scroll up and down. I can scroll left and right. I can scroll in circles! It's amazing. But, after using it for awhile, dirt gets into the mechanism and the Mighty Mouse quits scrolling. On many occasions I've used some pretty bad words to express the frustration I've felt trying to get my Mighty Mouse to man-up. I've tried many suggestions to clean my Mighty Mouse. They all worked, for about 42 minutes. Then the thing would jam up again. Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Today I took matters into my own hands. Following some excellent directions found on YouTube, I disassembled and cleaned my Mighty Mouse. You'd be amazed at how much gunk can get into that tiny little opening around that tiny little ball. Great technology rendered useless by a tiny bit of dirt.

But now my Mighty Mouse is scrolling again. Scrolling along like there's no tomorrow. It may not last long, but now I know I can easily fix it. Still, I think I'll send a seething e-mail to the folks at Apple.
