My New Kindle...

...has not arrived yet. Maybe today.

Yep, I've got another cold

I'm catching a lot of colds these days. Last one I had was only a few weeks ago. I remember because I was still in training for this job. I went several years without catching any colds while I lived in North Carolina. Here in Texas I seem to catch every cold that comes around. I slept all day yesterday, hoping the rest would help heal me. No real way to know if it helped or not. I still have the cold. I have three days off work, though, so I'll be able to rest. I do have to go to the hospital tomorrow for some tests that will, hopefully, let me and the doctors know why I'm always so tired. That appointment is officially for 9:00 a.m., but I can really go whenever I feel like it since I'm only going to the lab to have some blood drawn. I'll probably also have to pee in a cup. That's always something to look forward to.

I'm going to go take some NyQuil and rest some more. (It's interesting to note that my computer did not flag NyQuil as a misspelling.)

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Worked my first 10-hour day today. It went by kinda fast, which was very nice. But now I'm kinda tired, which sucks. Except that I can go to bed now. That's good because I can go to bed now. It's bad because I know the more sleep I get, the harder it will be to get up in the morning.

My work schedule until further notice will be four 10-hour days on, three days off. This was my choice.

Checked out the San Diego ComicCon stuff that's on YouTube for my favorite shows, Lost and Dexter. Looks like both are going to be excellent. John Lithgow will play a serial killer on Dexter. And on Lost, some of the folks we haven't see for awhile will be back for the last season.

God likes me. The four Lost stars who showed up for the ComicCon Lost panel were my four favorites: Jorge Garcia (Hurley); Michael Emerson (Benry); Josh Holloway (Sawyer); and Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert). Jorge is a riot, Michael is an incredible actor, and Josh and Nestor are very nice on the eyes.

There were no female stars on the Lost panel at all, although I think one or two were on other panels for other things.

I think I'm getting a cold. I went for about seven or eight years where I didn't get a single cold. Now it seems like I'm getting every cold that anyone anywhere near me might have. What's up with that?

I'm anxious to get and play with my Kindle. I've already ordered two books.

About the Blog and Kindle

I went looking for blogs that are available for the Kindle device. I waded through about 750+ blogs before I got too tired to go on. I may have my blog(s) available for the Kindle, but it may well take days for anyone to find it.

The first two books I will read on the Kindle will be "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay and "Audition" by Barbara Walters. I will let you know what I think about the books as well as what I think about the Kindle.

This site will send any LOST fan into hysterics

I wish I'd heard of this site sooner. It's effing funny!

Another Tragic Celebrity Death

The famous Taco Bell Spokesdog - who charmed audiences with the catchphrase “Yo Quiero Taco Bell” - has died. Gidget, the 15-year-old Chihuaha, suffered a fatal stroke Tuesday night, according to a report from People magazine. Here's an article you can read.

Read me anywhere!

I was browsing the Amazon.com website and found out, after some detective work*, that I can register my blog so that anyone with a Kindle can subscribe and read it (at a very low cost - 99 cents per month, I think).

So tell all your high-tech friends to look me up with their Kindle and subscribe.

I suppose now I'll have to blog more frequently and about something relatively important, or funny, or something.

Feet in the Stirrups

Nope, sorry. I'm not talking about horseback riding, unfortunately.

I finally made it to a long overdue appointment with the GYN. I'm not going to get into the details. Most of you already know what goes on. What's worth blogging is that I finally got the chance to ask for some hormone pills to see if hormones are the reason for my extreme tiredness. I was very excited to finally be going in to get the whole issue resolved. To my extreme and utter disappointment, the doctor said no to the hormones. No. Can you believe that? I can't. Not even so I could rule it out as a reason for the tiredness. I told her the truth: that getting out of bed is the hardest thing I do every day, that I spend most of my free time sleeping, that I'm at risk of losing my job due to tardies and absences, and that, on a scale of one to ten, my quality of life is about a two. Made no difference. No hormones. What? Does she think I'm a hormone junky trying to get a fix? Is she worried I'll become one? Humor me. Give a few months worth of hormones and let me see for myself that they're not the problem.

Guess I'll have to go to the black market for my test hormones. If anyone can provide a contact, I'd me most grateful.

The day wasn't a total loss. I got a tetanus shot which included a vaccine for whooping cough, which is apparently making a comeback in the USA. Go get a whooping cough vaccine, if you haven't already. You only need to get one in a lifetime.

I also got to eat at Jack In The Box, which I usually do when I have a doctor's appointment, because there's one I pass on the way home. (I have to drive to a city that is about 40 miles away to see the doctor.) I always have the spicy chicken sandwich with curly fries. The curly fries tasted especially good today, for some reason.

Finally, I stopped at Michael's, the hobby store. I didn't find what I was looking for, but I did find some Mallo Cups. I used to eat them when I was a kid. They're like peanut butter cups but, instead of peanut butter, they're filled with marshmallow cream. Don't ask me why they're selling candy at a hobby store.

I also found some very amusing wind-up toys. They dance like little Forrest Gump.

Another Reason to Hate the Heat

I learned something new today. I learned that a car window can break just because it's hot outside. Guess how I learned that. Yep, because it was my window that broke. I was at work when someone came in and told me that my window was broken. When I got outside to look at it I saw that some of the glass was inside the car and some was outside. Nothing inside had been touched. (There was nothing of any value in there, anyway!) I was very calm about it. I guess a lot of people thought that was strange, to be that calm. All I can say is, they should take the drugs that I'm taking!

Doing a Google search didn't give me a definitive answer, but it revealed that others had had their windows break under similar circumstances. (Look here and here if you're interested.)

I know that car windows can break because of very cold temperatures. That happened to my ex-husband when he was smoking in my car after he'd "quit" smoking. Oh yeah, he did quit. He just neglected to tell me he'd started up again. I forgive him.

Going to bed now because I have to get up bright and early so I can get my window replaced. I'll be late for work. Oh well. I'm not real crazy about the job, anyway! I just hope it doesn't rain.

Of Mice and Balls

I've just about had it with my "Mighty Mouse," the new mouse designed by Apple. Conceptually it's a fantastic idea. Realistically it's a stress producer.

The Mighty Mouse has a tiny, tiny track ball on the top. It's wonderful - when it's working. I can scroll up and down. I can scroll left and right. I can scroll in circles! It's amazing. But, after using it for awhile, dirt gets into the mechanism and the Mighty Mouse quits scrolling. On many occasions I've used some pretty bad words to express the frustration I've felt trying to get my Mighty Mouse to man-up. I've tried many suggestions to clean my Mighty Mouse. They all worked, for about 42 minutes. Then the thing would jam up again. Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Today I took matters into my own hands. Following some excellent directions found on YouTube, I disassembled and cleaned my Mighty Mouse. You'd be amazed at how much gunk can get into that tiny little opening around that tiny little ball. Great technology rendered useless by a tiny bit of dirt.

But now my Mighty Mouse is scrolling again. Scrolling along like there's no tomorrow. It may not last long, but now I know I can easily fix it. Still, I think I'll send a seething e-mail to the folks at Apple.

Michael on Ebay

I found an old Michael Jackson record in my dusty collection. It's the Off The Wall LP. I thought I might sell it on ebay. It seems that 2038 people had the exact same idea. I'll be keeping my copy.

Bees

I like bees. I even feed them from time to time (sugar water, like I give the hummingbirds). But they're dying. (Not the ones I feed, but in general.) If you haven't heard about that, check out this article.

Recently I had the task of emptying the trash in the large trash cans in front of our local Walgreens. (I used to work there.) On one particular day there were a lot of bees flying around the cans. More than usual. As I emptied the trash I noticed what the bees were going after - soda pop cans and cups that had been discarded in the trash. Some of the bees even somehow managed to get into a styrofoam cup that still had its lid and a straw.

I "freed" all the trapped bees before I tied up the full trash bag.

Then I started to wonder. High-fructose corn syrup. Those sodas were loaded with it. We're pretty sure that crap is bad for us humans. I wonder what sort of effect it has on the bees.

Now, don't get me wrong. As much as I hate high-fructose corn syrup, I am not saying that it is responsible for killing the bees. What I am saying is that it sure isn't keeping them healthy. And what is it doing to the honey that the bees produce?

This is one more reason why we need to eliminate the use of high-fructose corn syrup.

These bees are trying to steal the "nectar"
from the hummingbird feeder.

Another Dream Thing

Many of my dreams involve me looking for my car because I can't remember where I parked it. When I finally do find it, it's this weird little thing that's more like a cart than a car. It drives very strangely and always low to the ground, and it's often a question whether it will get me home or not.

This must have some strong, strange symbolism.

Ahhh, They Got Me!!!

I just downloaded "Thriller" (25th anniversary edition) from Amazon.com!

Nicknames

I just remembered that my mom used to have nicknames for me and my brothers when we were young. She'd call me "Jezebel" and my brothers "Rasputin." How weird was that?!

Maybe this Jezebel, and not this Jezebel.

But there's only one Rasputin.
